Question 4:
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
As a group we used a wide variety of different media technologies in order to aid us with the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages of our media project. I used a number of software and hardware to aid in the completion of the product depending on where I was.
Within school the main technologies used were 'Pages', 'Google Docs', and 'Final Cut Pro'. My use of 'Final Cut Pro' was limited as the main editor in our group was Rebecca, however in some events where Rebecca wasn't present we would alternate using 'Final Cut Pro' to ensure that the progress on the editing of our short film was not hindered. Through this we were all able to gain a basic understanding of the various different functions and forms of editing you could do with 'Final Cut Pro', although in Becky's case, she would have learned a lot of the more complex processes within the software. Our use of 'Google Docs' was not only to communicate , but also to work on something at the same time. For example, when doing our Poster and Magazine Review research, our group used 'Google Slides' a lot in order to all work alongside each other on our film reviews, but to also keep all of our work together, meaning it would be easier to add all of our work to our blogs. The use of 'Pages' was to create not only our review, but also our production company logos, I personally used Pages in order to create 'Scribble Productions' which was easily done due to the ease at which one can make use of 'Pages'.
From home I used a few different media technologies in order to continue progress on the project. One such software that I used from home was NCH Softwares 'VideoPad Video Editor', which is a free video editing software that I had found online, I used this to edit the voice overs for the Prezi initially, but after finding that there was a problem, I instead took a different approach and used 'Audacity', which is another free software, however 'Audacity' focuses more on the modification of audio clips such as MP3s as opposed to video clips. Using Audacity I cut out various different breaks in the dialogue and also used it to sync up two separate audio tracks that would've otherwise not flown well due to someone's pitch of voice changing suddenly for example. Furthermore it allowed me to remove any unnecessary pauses that might've come when people were reading out their part of the evaluation question answer. A few other media technologies that I used from home were 'Gyazo' and 'ShareX'. Both of these allowed me to take screenshots and also allowed me to make gifs of certain events that unfold within the film so that I would be able to add them to my blog and also to the Prezi. For example in my Title research I have a gif from the Forrest Gump intro which shows the motion of the camera as it traced the feather on its descent. From home I also continued my use of Google Docs to tie up the loose ends in work that could not be completed at school. We also created a facebook group chat that allowed us to converse our ideas and to also decide on days in which we could film.
Further media technologies that I had used both when at school and at home include Vimeo and Youtube. Both of these were vital in the research of existing short films as they both contained a fountain of various short films and short film genres. Alongside this, when both at school and at home I made use of Prezi in order to make presentations for some of the old short films and also the presentation on our evaluation question. Throughout the whole process of completing our media project, I added details of it as well as details of our research onto wix, which we had used the previous year for AS, meaning that we were all already accustomed in regards to how to use this media technology.
