Sound effect Clips
We decided to use home video clips of the actor of Finn as a child to provide a back story as well as to make the title sequence more interesting. We discovered at the start of the movie there was a brief period of static, which lacked any audio, as such we decided to incorporate this into our film and found a suitable audio clip to mimic the sound we would have expected to have been produced by the static period.
We also chose to use the 'Sunny Day' sound file for the hut scene as we found that the audio collected during the recording was largely dominated by the wind and so we couldn;t hear any other natural sounds, nor the dialogue of the characters.
Alongside this, we also purchased an alarm clock to use in the intro of the film, but we found that the audio did not translate over well during playback, and we found that the audio through playback was obnoxiously loud and hurt our ears, so we decided instead to find an online sound effect that was well suited to the visual of the alarm clock.
Backing Tracks
In our film we used three different songs ('Tears' by The Tragic Thrills, 'Afterglow' by The Crookes and 'Do You Feel at Home' by Mowbeck) that we had found on soundcloud. Before using them, however, we contacted the respective bands through Social media requesting their permission to use their songs.
We later decided that we would primarily use 'Afterglow' throughout the film as it's upbeat nature suited the day to day life of Finn and her mother.
We decided we will use Afterglow in the intro of the film for the title sequence and also throughout the start of the film where Finn is present, until Logan also becomes a part of the story upon Finn's arrival at the hut scene.
When we are introduced to Logan and she and Finn have their conversation at the hut, there is no background music playing, however when they get up and leave to go to the skate park more background music is introduced, however this time we useed Tears by The Tragic Thrills.
In the conclusion of the movie we used Do You Feel At Home by Mowbeck as it is a much slower paced song and we felt that it suited the tone of the conclusion of the film.
Titles
The initial 'Missing Crisp Productions' Logo was created by Hannah using iWork Pages. It uses contrasting colours and a simple sans serif font.
In our title sequence we also have brief clips of Megan from a home movie of her as a child, we took these from a DVD and converted it to a video format that was compatible with Final Cut Pro using a program called 'Handbrake'. This then allowed us to mix our original clips of Finn crossing off the calendar with added clips of the home movie.
The clips of her from her early childhood show a much happier relationship between her and her mother than in the present day which would then be shown later in the film as her attitude towards her mother greatly contrasts the happiness that she demonstrated as a child. Further contrast can be seen as you can see that as a child, Finn loved the attention of her mother and wasn't at all shy or secretive when shown in the home video clips, but in her teenage years prefers to hide behind her hand made mask.
In regards to the text itself, we found that white text on a black background is a very commonly used title method of films in our chosen genre. We also used the home video clips to reveal a sort of back story to Finn as a character.
