My Name is Samuel Bale and for my A2 short film I will be working with Hannah Facey, Rebecca Wilson and Megan Shepherd. In the previous year I worked with a different group and at the end we decided to change them up a bit knowing that some members were dropping the subject. Hannah, Rebecca and Megan had worked together for AS but their fourth member has since dropped the subject and I have taken their position in the group for this year.

ABOUT

The purpose of this blog is to act as a sort of production journal in which I can document various different things such as research into other short films, which I will do to learn the different codes and conventions relevant to our chosen genre, I will also use this blog to detail the different initial ideas that our group has, and also the development of our ideas until our final one. I will also be putting things such as the story boards for our production and the final production itself on the blog, where I will also detail the editing process and the changes that we made to the original story board. The blog will also contain the different things we achieved during our production meetings and recording meetings.

BRIEF

The brief for our A2 media production is:

A short film in its entirety, lasting approximately five minutes, which may be live action or animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following three options:

  • A poster for the film;

  • A radio trailer for the film;

  • A film magazine review page featuring the film.

The objective of our course last year was to produce a film opening, with a duration no longer than two minutes, that would set the mood of the film, revealing genre and the plot of the film. Last year my group produced a two minute opening to a horror film. In doing this task for AS we were able to familiarise ourselves with the editing software, learning about how to use different types of shots and duration of shots to create a specific effect. We also learned about the restrictions on the props that we can use etc.

To the right you can see my group's production from last year, every member of the group took part in the different roles (Producer, Director, Cameraman and Editor), but in the end we decided on main roles for each person. We had got two actors from our schools to act as the young couple in the intro, Another thing I learned from doing the course last year is that it could be worth using a microphone to make sure that the voices are a lot more audible.
